I search his eyes for the slightest sign of anything, fear, remorse, anger. But there's only the same look of amusement that ended our last conversation. It's as if he's speaking the words again. "Oh, my dear Miss Everdeen. I thought we had agreed not to lie to each other." He's right. We did. The point of my arrow shifts upward. I release the string. And President Coin collapses over the side of the balcony and plunges to the ground. Dead. . Suzanne Collins
About This Quote

During the Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta receive a note from President Coin, requesting their assistance in bringing down District 13. They accept her offer and go to the Capitol to help destroy their enemy. When they get there, President Coin is dead on the balcony of her penthouse. She has killed herself.

While this death was not expected by Katniss, she observes that the woman has actually killed herself and not fallen from the balcony of her own accord. This is a powerful moment because we see that even though President Coin believes she is doing what is best for the people of Panem and for Panem itself, she is actually destroying her own life and happiness by continuing with her plan to destroy District 13.
